Next Tuesday October 6th is World Cerebral day.
On this day, we wear green to spread awareness for cerebral palsy. There are an estimated 50 million people living with cerebral palsy globally (https://worldcpday.org/) and I am among the lucky ones who have CP.
This disability is not my life and it does not dictate what I do in my life. I am going to university and made the decision to go by myself which is a huge step in my life. My first day that I will be going by myself will be on Oct 6th, World CP Day. I did not plan this but I just did the math. The next week I will be in Richmond BC and I come back on the 5th of October therefore the first day back to school will be on the 6th. Maybe it’s a sign, maybe it’s not but it is a motivator for me to give it my best and prove that I can go to university by myself. I will not be defined by my disability and I am proving that everyday since I took my first breath.
This shows that people with cerebral palsy or any disability are determined and can do whatever they put their mind to. You cannot underestimate what someone can do with a disability nor without a disability. Hell I decided to go to university by myself where nobody including myself thought I would so don’t underestimate anybody.
So on this day, October 6th, World Cerebral Palsy Day, I am asking you to wear green to show your support and spread awareness for Cerebral Palsy.
