The day came early, I went to university by myself.
Today was the first full day I went to university without a worker. I started my day thinking my worker started at 1 so I went to the library and did my thing until lunchtime. My father came down on his lunch break to give me lunch. So around 12, I packed my stuff up and went to the UC to meet my father for lunch. I ate lunch then headed over to the education building to wait for my lecture. As time passed and I got set up in my class, I texted my father to see where my worker was. Turns out the agency never had him scheduled with me today. NOW, do everyone see why I made the decision to go to university by myself.
I proved today that I can do this by myself. I got set up all by myself and packed up by myself. I navigated through MUN large campus in my wheelchair, got to my class on time, and even got myself set up. I’m not pissed that the agency messed up, I never rely on him being there.
Tomorrow I’m leaving for BC however when I return I will be by myself again for the first day back to school.
Today was a big step in my life, I gained back some of my independence, and most importantly I have the satisfaction that I proved everyone that doubted me wrong.
From now on, I will know what to expect and I know I can do it.
